Minutes
of
the Annual General Body Meeting
of
I.S.A. Mumbai Branch & Dr. G. S. Ambardekar Anaesthesia Society
Held on 25/11/2004 at
Leelavati Hospital (Auditorium), Bandra.
The annual academic meeting for the year 2004 was held on
25/11/2004 at 5.00 p.m. by Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists,
Mumbai branch and Dr. G. S. Ambardekar Anaesthesia Society at
Leelavati Hospital (Auditorium), Bandra.
The secretary informed that like every year, this year also they
had arranged a Competition for the “Best Paper Award”. It was
arranged in the Auditorium of the Jagjivanram Hospital at Mumbai
Central on 29th of June 2004.
Pre-requisites for paper presentation were that:
1. Four copies of the paper had to be submitted
2. Time given was: 8 minutes for presentation and 2
minutes for discussion
3. The P.G.Student / Anaesthesiologist had to be a member
of ISA.
The participants were invited from three
different categories.
Category I was meant for P.G. Students in Anaesthesia.
Category II was for Anaesthesiologists attached to
Private or Teaching Hospitals / Institutes & who had completed
not more than five years after their post graduate degree, and
Category III was for Anaesthesiologists having Free Lance
Private Practice in small nursing homes / hospitals
It was announced that the selected P.G. Student
(i.e. Category I) would qualify to participate in the Best Paper
Competition at MISACON held in August 2004 at Solapur (i.e.
Maharashtra State Level), for selecting a best paper from
Maharashtra State and to nominate the selected candidate for
Dr.T.N.Jha memorial competition at National level (in December
2004 at Bhopal) and he/she would be paid to and fro fare for
Solapur, and that the selected Anaesthesiologists from Category
II & III would be awarded prizes (1st & 2nd)
during the Annual ISA Meeting of Mumbai branch.
In all, there were 7 participants from three categories. For P.G.
Student category, having 7 participants, the 1st
prizewinner was Dr.Gautami Hendre from LTMM College & Sion
Hospital. The title of her paper was “Effects of Aminoiphylline
Infusion on Renal Function in Major Abdominal Trauma”.
For the category II i.e.,
“Anaesthesiologists working in an Institution” &
For the category III i.e.,
Anaesthesiologists having Free Lance Private Practice in small
nursing homes / hospitals, there was no entries hence no scope
for competition.
Then the academic session on “Guidelines for Management of
Unanticipated Difficult Airway” was held at 5.30pm. Speakers :
Dr.Ajit Pillai & Dr. Harshal Wagh.
The secretary then requested Dr.Baheti D.K., the president of
ISA, Mumbai branch, to present a Certificate of appreciation to
speakers Dr.Ajit Pillai & Dr. Harshal Wagh.
This Annual Academic Meeting Was Followed By The Annual
General Body Meeting
Dr.Mrs.M.N.Gandhi, the secretary of
ISA Mumbai branch & Dr. G. S. Ambardekar Anaesthesia Society
welcomed all the members and invited the president,
Dr.D.K.Baheti and the treasurer, Dr. Mrs. C.M.Deshpande to take
the chair.
The AGBM started at 6.30 p.m.
The secretary read the agenda of the meeting and the meeting
proceeded as per agenda.
Agenda 1:
To read and pass the minutes of the last Annual General Body
Meeting held on 24/11/2003 at Wadia Children Hospital.
The minutes were circulated amongst the members, were read,
confirmed and passed.
It was Resolved that the minutes of the last AGBM held on
24/11/2003 have been read, confirmed and passed:
Proposed by Dr.Mrs.L.Kamat & Seconded by Dr.S.N.Mohite.
Resolution was passed unanimously.
Agenda 2:
To read and pass the reports of the Secretary & the Treasurer.
The secretary read her report, namely the accounts of
activities from December 2003 to November 2004as under:

During the academic year, from November 2003 to October
2004, 48 life members and 4 ordinary members for
ISA, Mumbai branch and 53 life members for
Dr.G.S.Ambardekar Anaesthesia Society got enrolled.

In all, the society conducted 9 academic meetings for
the year 2004.
- Out of 9 meetings, one was an “Inter Collegiate Quiz
Competition” on “Anaesthesia for Orthopedic
Surgery” arranged by and at Nair Hospital and one was
“Best Paper Award Competition” arranged in Jagjivanram
Hospital. The secretary thanked people from the Department
of Anaesthesiology of both these Hospitals for their support
given to the society.

World Anaesthesia Day
was
celebrated on 10th
October 2004 in association with and at
S.P.Jain
Auditorium, Bombay Hospital. The secretary thanked
Dr.D.K.Baheti for taking all the trouble for celebrating World
Anaesthesia Day on a grand scale.

Out of remaining seven meetings, one was
arranged in H.N.Hospital, one in Jagjivanram,
one in Jaslok and one in Leelevati
Hospital by the Anaesthesiologists working in respective
hospitals. The secretary thanked Anaesthesiologists working in
these hospitals for their support.

One meeting was arranged by Nanavati Hospital
and one by Hinduja Hospital. The secretary
thanked the Anaesthesiologists of both these hospitals for
arranging these meetings on a grand scale.
The secretary requested all the anaesthesiologists to continue
giving their support in the similar manner in the coming years.
It was Resolved that the secretary’s report for the year 2004
has been read, confirmed and passed:

Resolution was passed unanimously.
Agenda 3:
The secretary then requested the treasurer, Dr. Charu
Deshpande to present the income and expenditure accounts
from November 2003 to October 2004.
The details of the accounts were circulated amongst the members,
were read, confirmed and passed. It was decided that the word
“sponsorship” should be used instead of “donation” in the
accounts.
It was resolved that the treasurer’s report has been read,
confirmed and passed:

Seconded by Dr.Sushila Shah.
Resolution was passed unanimously.
Agenda 4:
Election.
The secretary informed the members that nominations were invited
for the posts of:
President (1 post) & President Elect (1 post) to officiate from
December 2003 to November 2004,
Secretary (1 post) & Treasurer (1 post) to officiate from
December 2003 to November 2006 and
Committee Members (4 Posts) to officiate from December 2003 to
November 2005
The nomination were supposed to be in the form of an application
on a plain paper, to be forwarded to the following address so as
to reach before 22nd November, 4.00 p.m. and should
be signed by any two life members of ISA, Mumbai branch (i.e.,
proposed by one member and seconded by one member).
Eligibility Criteria was:
Any Life Member of ISA-Mumbai Branch for more than 15 years for
the first two posts, more than 10 years for the next two posts &
more than 5 years for the post of Committee Members or any
member, who has been actively participating (directly or
indirectly) in the activities of the City or Main (National)
Branch of ISA
The secretary informed that she had received only one nomination
for the post of President-elect, by Dr.Manju Butani; and five
for post of Executive Committee Members by Dr.Piyush Gandhi,
Dr.Indrani H., Dr J.Bapat, Dr.J.Divatia and Dr.Meena Kothari.
Dr.Sushila Shah said that since the president’s post is the
highest post, the past presidents should not be considered for
the post of executive committee member and objected for
Dr.Piyush Gandhi’s nomination. There was no objection for
nomination of other four candidates.
It was resolved that the following members have been elected
as office bearers of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists,
Mumbai Branch and Dr.G.S.Ambardekar Anaesthesia Society:
Dr. Vandana Laheri as President as she was
president elect for 2003-2004.
&
Dr.Manju Butani as President Elect
to officiate from December 2004 to November 2005.
And
DR Indrani H.
Dr.J.Bapat
Dr.J.Divatia and
Dr,Meena Kothari
were elected as Executive committee members to officiate
from December 04 to November 06

Seconded by Dr. Laxmi Kamath
Resolution was passed unanimously.
The outgoing office bearers welcomed all the incoming office
bearers by floral bouquet and wished them good luck.
Agenda 5:
President’s Address.
The secretary requested Dr.D.K.Baheti, the outgoing
president, to address the general body. During his address the
president thanked all the office bearers for their co-operation
during his tenure.
He then suggested that
the “World Anaesthesia Day” should be celebrated on a grand
scale along with
CME
Programme.
He said that the corpus for the same can be raised by reducing
the academic meetings to 4 per year so that maximum sponsorship
is available for world anaesthesia day.
He greeted the incoming president Dr.Laheri.
The secretary, on behalf of the society, presented floral
bouquet to the outgoing president; Dr.D.K.Baheti and she
requested the incoming president, Dr.V.V.Laheri to say a
few words.
.
The incoming president thanked the members for
electing her as a president and during her address she promised
to continue the activity of ISA in the same tradition and also
to conduct programs like CME / workshops and thereby attracting
members to get involved and contribute more and more.
She suggested that we should dream of having an ISA hall in a
centralized place for monthly meetings and a office space and
the same can be used for commercial purposes to raise the funds.
Agenda 6:
Any other matter with the permission of the chair.
The secretary raised the
issue of increasing the
membership fee of
Dr.G.S.Ambardekar
Anaesthesia Society and asked the floor to suggest
the amount. It was agreed by Dr. V. M Divekar,. Dr.Kamat Laxmi
and Dr.Shushila Shah.
It was
resolved that the membership fee should be raised to 500/-
rupees.

Resolution was passed unanimously.
The secretary suggested Dr.Satish Kulkarni’s name as a committee
member for web-site and on the editorial board of ISA & GSAA
Newsletter as one of the previous committee member, Dr.
M.Butani is elected as president-elect. She also announced Dr.
R.Joglekar as a web-master and Dr. Arun Rane as editor. The
other committee members for both web-site and the newsletter are
Dr.B.M.Kamdar

Dr.Shubha Mohite

The secretary thanked all the members and the office bearers for
their co-operation and contribution.
